When it comes to ROI, most dentists have no idea which procedures in their practice are profitable. You should take a hard look at evaluating ROI on dental procedures as well as capital equipment investments.
Over the next few weeks, I will share with you information from a recent AAFE study that was conducted with AAFE member dentists who have integrated Botox®, dermal fillers, TMJ/orofacial pain trigger point therapy, and bruxism therapy and dental sleep medicine into their practices so you can see for yourself the profitability impact these areas can have on your practice.
The investments in these areas are purely the cost of skill based training. In other words, there is no capital investment in most of these areas and there is no lab fee. Once these skills are learned, you have them for the rest of your career. The highest ROI you will ever have is in skill based training as it pays off quickly and the benefits continue for years to come.
Let’s start off this 4 part series with Botox® and how it has affected the production of AAFE members who have integrated this into their offices.
Botulinum Toxin (Botox®/Xeomin) Treatment
The average botulinum toxin treatment appointment took approximately 10 minutes with the actual injection time being 5 minutes or less. The average patient production fee was $1402 with a profit of $1014. The difference between the patient fee and the profitability is the cost of the botulinum toxin used. This is the average for one patient treatment of Botox®. The patient fee can range from as little as $300 to as much as $2500 just with a botulinum toxin treatment depending on the number of areas being treated as well as the reason for treatment.
