The Importance of Proper Skincare

By Crystal Wilson, CNP

When our patients come to their injectable appointments, they tend to have questions that relate to skincare. This usually sparks a conversation about what they are using now, and what their skin concerns and/or problem areas are. Skincare can be very confusing when you do not know what will work best for your skin type. It can also be difficult knowing when to use products and in what order. We typically have patients start with a very straightforward routine and always recommend medical grade skincare. Medical grade basically means the ingredients in the products are more potent and active to be able to create changes in your skin. These changes are necessary in order to appreciate a difference in your skin. The most important aspects of skincare are to stay consistent and be patient. We typically have patients start with cleansing, exfoliating, toning, moisturizing and applying sunscreen. Once they are comfortable with those products and their skin has adjusted, we start to add in treatments or serums that pertain to their specific needs. Proper skincare and injectable procedures go hand in hand. We like to say when patients have a good “canvas” to work with, it makes their injectable results that much better. Using proper skincare can also help in the longevity of the results. If you are already investing time and money into injectables, it is a good idea to do the same for your skin to reap all the benefits. Many medspas or wherever you get your injectable procedures done also offer skincare, so be sure to ask at your next appointment if you are interested in taking better care of your skin!
