Here are some tips for choosing a model patient for the Botox training course:
- Patients who have facial pain, TMJ syndrome, headaches, migraine, masseter and any facial muscle hypertrophy are welcome as patients. The facial areas that are ideal to treat with botulinum toxin are the forehead lines when the patient makes a 'surprised' look, the frown lines between the eyes when the patient makes the 'mad' facial expression, the 'crow's feet' lines at the corner of the eyes, temporalis and masseter muscle hypertrophy and facial pain in these areas.
- If your patient has clenching or bruxism issues, these areas will be addressed as well.
- The model patient should not be needle phobic.
- The model patient should be easy to anesthetize and be able to tolerate local anesthesia.
- Patients must be in good health with no active skin infections in the areas to be treated.
- Patients with neurological, autoimmune and immunological diseases are not the best candidates as well as people with long term systemic diseases.
- Patients who bruise easily because of medications or other disease processes may not be good candidates.
- The model patient should not have any important life events coming up within two weeks of treatment. The model patient may have some bruising after treatment.
- If you are unsure about whether a patient's medical condition is a contraindication to Botox and dermal filler therapy, please check with their physician prior to treating them at a course.
- Every model patient must sign an informed consent prior to treatment and there will be no exceptions.
Botox Therapeutic PRE - TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS - Please share with patient
In an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before
treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result or great
result, by reducing some possible side effects associated with the
injections. We realize this is not always possible; however, minimizing these
risks is always desirable.
- The model patient should be available for 2-3 hours.
- Patient must be in good health with no active skin infections in theareas to be treated. Patients with autoimmune and immunological diseases are not the best candidates as well as people with long term systemic diseases.
- Patient should not be needle phobic
- Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood which will increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory / blood thinning medications ideally, for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.
- Schedule Botox® appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. etc. It is not desirable to have a very special event occurring and be bruised from an injection which could have been avoided.
Every model patient must sign an informed consent prior to treatment. Consents will be provided at each course and there will be no exceptions.
We have the right to refuse treatment to any patient. If you have any questions about your patient, please email Dr. Malcmacher at Drlouis@FacialEsthetics.org.
